National Burial Index
For England & Wales (3rd edition)
Federation of Family History Societies, 2010. DVD. ISBN 978-0-9564721-0-6
The National Burial Index (NBI) is a database of burial entries recorded in
English and Welsh registers—parish, nonconformist, Roman Catholic, Quaker and
cemetery registers. It excludes death registrations and monumental
inscriptions.
This is an ongoing project, and not all burials will be found in the index,
but over 18 million records are indexed in this new third edition (published
March 2010), covering the years 1538-2008. This includes the 13 million records
from the second edition.
Each entry shows the surname, forename(s), date of burial, age (where given),
the parish or cemetery where the event was recorded, whether the data has been
checked, and the family history society/group/indvidual who extracted this
record.
You will need a PC running Windows 98 / XP / Vista / 7, with at least 2.8 GB
of free disk space and a CD or DVD drive.
The NBI is not suitable for Apple Mac users.
