My Ancestors were in the Salvation
Army
Third edition (2007). By Ray Wiggins. 67 pages. ISBN 978-1-85951-406-1.
The Salvation Army is an organisation known throughout the world, but the very
name conjours up different thoughts in different people's minds. Some think of the
social and goodwill work carried out by Salvationists, while other's thoughts are
of brass bands or of searching for missing persons. Nevertheless, the Army has from
its inception been first and foremost a denomination of the Christian Church. As
to the records of the Salvation Army, there is a vast amount of material available
but, as far as birth, marriage and death registers are concerned, the family historian
will find few, if any, have survived. It is hoped that this publication will enlighten
those readers whose ancestors were either Salvationists themselves or closely associated
with the Army as to something of its background, what further information may be
available and some of the unusual terminology used.
